Service Department

George Richardson - Foreman

The Service Department is responsible for refuse and recycling pickup, ice and snow removal during the winter months, leaf pickup, and general property maintenance of the publicly owned properties throughout the Village.

The Village picks up leaves at the curb during leaf season.  Leaf pickup begins the week of October 10th.

Your assistance in keeping vehicles off the street and removing branches and other materials from leaf piles will improve the efficiency of our process.

Village refuse crews will collect the trash at a convenient location for the resident.  Our crews will go into your garage to pick up trash if such arrangements are made.  Village ordinance prohibits the placement of refuse between the front building line of the house and the street.  There is no additional charge for refuse collection in the Village of Ottawa Hills.  The cost of this collection is paid for through general tax revenues.

Additional Collections

Leaves

Village crews also pick up leaves during the Fall.  Each year the Village publishes a schedule and instructions for efficient leaf collection.

Bulk Items

The Village does not have a routine collection of bulk items, although the Village has recently been employing a once-a-year unlimited trash pickup. If you have large items that are not appropriate for normal refuse collection, such as furniture, a water heater, etc., the Village offices may have names of private contractors who may be helpful in disposing of items of that nature.

Boxes

For residents who have recently moved into the Village and have a large number of moving boxes, we make special arrangements to pick up those boxes. Please call the administrative offices to arrange for a special box collection.

Paint, etc.

We do not pick up paint, gas, oil, or household hazardous waste products. Lucas County will now accept these. Please call Lucas County Waste Management at 419.213.2230 to learn where to take these materials.
