Chief Overmeyer came to the Ottawa Hills Police Department in 1982 as Police Explorer, then joined the force as Police Dispatcher the following year. He became a Police Officer in 1985 and was promoted to Sergeant in 1993, and Lieutenant in 1998. He became Acting Chief in November 2000  Chief Overmeyer has a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and a master's degree in Justice Administration. He and his family reside in the village.
